On a neat to know basis

I like to know stuff!!

I dislike it when people hide information. This goes for people managing companies as well as in my personal life. Therefore I hate the expression "On a Need-To-Know basis".

I would like to advocate my own expression:
"On a Neat-To-Know basis"
Give every person the information that he WANTS, not NEEDS. Every person is more capable of deciding what information is right for him than others.

I think the internet is driving the development towards this. The blogging phenomena is increasing it's impact as it makes people publish informal information and unfinished ideas (this is one...).

Just some thought's of mine...and remember where you heard it first :;)

Don't go to Malta and leave your favourite pet (-project) with a friend. It might be abused...:;)

Fat as few - Mondays to the rescue
2006-08-07, 01:30
Well into my vacation I discover that I once again managed to achive my goal to gain at least 5 kilos during the summer. Tomorrow is monday and the start of a new week, a new life...you've all heard it before. It ain't always easy to get started. But this time I got an old friend to help me out...

Mondays! The coolest podcast out there! They have finally released some more episodes. I really look forward to taking a two hour walk tomorrow morning (before my healty breakfast) and listen to these crazy guys. If you like me like listening to really disturbed people going at each other, you gotta check this out.

And while listening take a walk and you might loose a pound or two instead of your mind...

aNotherMock
2006-08-03, 00:50
The other day I was about to set up a new Visual Studio project for a control I needed. It was a control well suited for TDD so I added the needed references for that.
Since I have been doing TDD for a while now using NMock 1.0 I felt the need to upgrade myself and take a look at and learn NMock 2.0.

But when I search the web I landed on an article on CodeProject that discussed a somewhat different approach to mocking and TDD.

The argumentation in the article was about how TDD often leads you to make a somewhat more complex design (with factories and stuff) that you aint gonna need (YAGNI). This design is needed since the mocking frameworks only mock interfaces and the mocking instances must be handed to the class under test in some way.

So now to the interesting part. The mocking framework introduced in the article wasTypeMock.Net and it allows classes to be mocked.
I plan to check this out and get an opinion of if this is a good idea or not. I will get back on the subject. But it sure looks interesting since you will be more able to design for functionality than test. And that is something I reacted against doing TDD in the past.

Blast from the past
2006-07-30, 23:50
On my second holiday week the mobile phone suddenly sounded the SMS signal. No worries! A friend has sent a greeting perhaps? No, beware. It's your past haunting you...

For about six years ago I did a "gig" for a consulting firm where I developed a Recipe system for the "Felix Tomatketchup". The system has been in production ever since. Now the SMS told me there was a problem and that I should call a certain number.

After getting hold of the person at Procordia who runs the plant where the system is installed, I was told that the problem had to be solved quite promptly. Could I perhaps help them with that??

Well darn, yes! So me and my wife and child got a payed vacation to Blekinge where the plan is located. We did Jämjö by night and stopped by Karlskrona on the way back home to Höllviken.

The problem was some corrupt dBase files that I replaced and the problem was solved in about an hour on the first night...
